Starflow in Use

Starflow – in open channels, pipes, and for flood alarm

StarFlow Applications

Gauging Station

STARFLOW is mounted on the river sole and measures water depth and velocity of the creek. At normal flow the water depth is between 35-50cm and the velocity is 400-600mm/second. At flood levels above 80cm channel velocity rises to 1000-1700mm/second. Both readings are transmitted via a 4-20mA module to a telemetry system. The flow is calculated in the central computer where all data is also archived.

Pipe Installation

STARFLOW is mounted inside a steel pipe of 700mm diameter by means of an expanding band It monitors the flow of the river to the flood plant. Typical velocities are 1000 to 2000mm/second. STARFLOW continuously calculates the flow rate which is 300 to 600 litres/second and flow is displayed locally on a non re-settable counter.

Flood Plant

STARFLOW is mounted on the sole of a flood channel. When the level of the river is high, the water overflows through the channel into an environmentally protected area. STARFLOW measures water depth and velocity and calculates the flow. All values are continuously recorded by the logger which is unloaded every 3 months with a laptop. As a result of the low incline, the velocities are very small, typically 100mm/second down to 20mm/second
